With the New Year just around the corner you may be starting to write out your New Year’s Resolution goals. Research shows that every year weight loss is on 85% of people’s lists. Did this make your list for 2013? Unfortunately less than 15% of those people actually attain their weight loss resolution goals. Does this explain the huge crowd at the gym the first week of January? And a week later the gym is empty!
As a personal trainer and health coach I have helped countless clients to attain their weight loss resolution goals and make this a lifelong habit. I can teach you tips to make fitness a lifestyle rather than a phase of your life. If you are ready to embark on a health and fitness plan then I am here to guide you!
Here are four tips to help you to get fit and stick to your resolution goal:
1) Set out a plan. Your plan should include a healthy meal plan and a workout plan based on your fitness level. You should also set small, achievable goals within your plan (like lose 5 pounds in 5 weeks). By setting small goals you will set yourself up for success. Research shows that people that lose weight gradually are less likely to regain weight! So get your goal set.
2)Stage your home to reflect the “new you.” Make sure you do not have any unhealthy food in your home as this will only be temptation. Stock your refrigerator with healthy food such as fruit, vegetables, and cold water. Slice up vegetables and fruit so you are prepared for your mini meals throughout the day. Remove all sweets and any other temptations so you will be less likely to stray.
3)Have someone take a picture of you. Since pictures show your weight, have someone take a picture you and consider this your “before” photo to the results of a “new you.” Tape this picture on the refrigerator so you are reminded everyday when you go to eat. This will help you to eliminate mindless eating.
4)Get ready for great changes. Understand that this is going to take some work but with hard dedication you will see great changes and great results! Have fun! And know you can achieve anything you set your mind to ;-).
Now lets toast with our bottled water…here’s to a happy and healthy new year!
