As we are in holiday mode, the stores are busy as ever, and we continue to cross off our shopping lists but what are the gifts that matter the most? What are the gifts that you keep for years to come? Well as my children would say, “the gifts that mean the most are the gifts from the heart.” I could not have said that better myself, oh wait we, as parents instilled this in them. Sometimes I forget this myself because I get caught up with the sales and holiday special deals.
But what are the gifts we remember. I have ornaments from clients I trained 5 years ago that I still hang on the tree, christmas cards from clients thanking me for the motivation they needed, and cards from 8 anniversaries ago. And I remember all the baked goods made out of love. Why? Because these are gifts that have made me feel loved, appreciated and warmed my heart. Today a client made me a box of Christmas cookies and it made me think of what matters most in life. These cookies not only tasted amazing ( yes I do eat cookies, just in moderation) but they were a gift from the heart. I was so very touched that she took the time to make this for me. I was moved that she thought of me.
Every year me and the children make ornaments, cookie platters and crafts and this is all from our heart. Can you recall a gift from the heart that your significant other gave you? I always enjoy the words in a card more than any piece of jewelry. Why? Because that person took the time to tell you how the feel. There is nothing more beatiful than displaying your emotions. So this year let me spread my holiday cheer with helpful heartfelt tips:
1)Write out your cards to your close family members and friends. Anyone can buy a card but there is something magical and tear jerking when you put your feelings down on paper. I think it enlightens us to reality. Try it…you will feel great after writing this out too.
2)Paint wooden ornaments for your friends and family. Whether you are 20 or 70 years of age (or somewhere in between), you can always learn new skills and painting ornaments is a fun craft and it will show your loved ones you took the time for them.
3)Make a scrapbook for your significant other. This is one of my favorite gifts because a scrapbook will help you to re-live the special moments in your life and you will have this for years to come. So make a scrapbook for the one you love!
Whatever you do, make this holiday season a special one filled with gifts from the heart, smiles, hugs, holiday cheer and some squats in between! Happy Holidays!!
